Tokushi Feral Qwhilla

| List Price: L$

After releasing the anthropomorphicised Qwhilla, Tokushi opted to give a four-legged, ‘feral’ version of the avatar a try. The result is an avatar that takes much of the qualities and characteristics of the larger, anthro Qwhilla into a far smaller package complete with an animation overrider.

Build and Skin:

This avatar, like most quadrupeds does not bare any of the avatar shape’s skin. Instead, every part of the body is covered with sculpted prims. The texture quality remains at the standard that Tokushi has set for itself. Organic and varying to give the body good definition and a stylised furry complexion. Like the non-Feral Qwhilla, the markings are difficult to describe; the markings are different depending on which Qwhilla you end up buying; whether it’s Snow Leopard, Parrot, or Desert, etc. Therefore, you will be able to see some of the choices yourselves in the review. We will also provide a link to a picture with all available varieties. As a whole, the textures are very solid and effective at keeping the Feral an aesthetic piece.

As this is a non-anthropomorphic avatar, we’ll change the order of our review a little bit to accomodate it. The face is expressive with bright eyes and a lively countenance. I had mentioned in the preceding avatar that some peers had believed the face to appear as if it were high on drugs. The large eyes are framed by a thick and rounded muzzle and long, and large ears that point away from the head. The muzzle comes with a talking jaw ability, so the mouth is filled with teeth and a thin tongue with interesting markings. Users have the option to stick out their tongue; revealing a long, curling tongue with little spikes on the end. The textures and positioning of the teeth are recogniseable; slightly yellowed teeth textured to look like they’re in reddish-pink gums.

The ears are as expressed before, long, but are not perched atop of the head as much as more horizontal to the eyes. They are a defining part of the avatar in terms of their shape and textures; a combination of sculpted fluff and semi-transparent layers giving both ears depth and dimension. It should be said that such detail is not only found just on the ears, but on the entire avatar. There are touches all over the body, such as semi-transparent whiskers on the muzzle and over the eyes, or the aforementioned sculpted fluff around the cheeks and other parts of the body.

The head gives way to a neck which attaches to a relatively small and sleek body. A good trait of this avatar is that the body size is fairly proportionate to the head-size. Admittedly, the head to body transition is a little odd depending on what angle you look at it. This isn’t a very pronounced issue at all, but one wonders if it is possible that it could have been done a little better.

Regardless, as mentioned before, the body is sleek and streamlined; segmented into a torso and pelvis so that the avatar can have some bodily flexibility in the way it sits and moves. The included animation overrider takes advantage of the two separate attachments making up the body by allowing a curving, arched back while sitting.TKFeralQwhilla360

The forelegs and hindlegs are themed similarily though some major differences in both pairs present themselves. The front legs are comparitively thinner and streamlined with furred upper leg giving way to an avian-influenced, scaled lower leg. The front feet themselves are quite neat; a good translation of a normally avian look to the forelegs of another creature. The talons are very pronounced on each of the four digits on the front feet, further stressing the Feral quality of this Qwhilla. These paws are probably made to suited to digging or using limited movement to pick up and touch things.

The hind feet follow suit,  but are larger, thicker, and look more suited to carrying the weight of the Qwhilla and providing good traction during movement. As such, the hind feet are still avian-influenced, but more paw-like. The talons on each toe are a good deal smaller, and the digitigrade leg has been supplemented with a dew-claw. Compared to the front leg, the furred part of the upper hindleg has thicker muscles that look suitable for jumping and pouncing. The only possible issue that I see with the legs is not one of build problems; but rather that a well-made array of fluff lines the back of the lower hindleg in the same colour as the scaled leg itself. Having fur on an area that seems to be made of scales is a little peculiar, unless I have misinterpreted the covering type.

At last, the tail. Much like the ears and the markings, the tail is again one of the endearing traits of this Feral Qwhilla. The default arches loosely into the air all long, tubular and well fluffed for a full appearance. It comes with sharp metal-like blades in the tail that have a functional purpose in Qwhilla lore. Users can swap to different versions of the tail by looking through the ‘Extras’ folder where you can find it in a few different states, like curled up, curled down, or curled flat against the ground.

Heads-Up Display (HUD) and Features:

The Qwhilla feral comes with all the basic features the user would need, but also a few extras for customisation. The HUD is the ultimate command centre, but in order to use the commands that come with the avatar, users must look inside the readme and open the command notecard from inside there. The avatar HUD/Features are as Follows:

  • Head: Eyelid State, Blink Toggle, Eyebrow Expressions, Individual Eye Colour Choices
  • Ear: Ear Twitching Toggle
  • AO: Assorted AO settings, including Sleeping, Sitting, Walking, Laying Down, and Tail-Chasing.
  • Mouth: Smile/Neutral/Frown Toggle, Open/Close Toggle, Tongue In/Out Toggle
  • Tail: Spikes Retracted/Extracted Toggle

TKFeralQwhillaFlowerandCollarThe Animation Overrider that has been included with this avatar is very good for Tokushi’s first. It covers all of the basics of running and walking competently, and includes extras, much like the other quad creators have done. So for example, flight, and the ability to chase one’s tail. A nice part of the avatar is that in certain animation poses, the head is still able to move slightly when the user moves their mouse. This lets the avatar look less stiff and more attentive in conversation and daily usage.

Finally, two other additions add further fun to the avatar; first of all, the avatar comes with the option for users to wear an included collar. This is basically a simple leather collar adorned with gears around the sides and a key hanging just below the buckle. The result is a quaint steam-punk-ish look. The other option is for users to wear a flower that would have the avatar holding the hibiscus bloom to their muzzle in their forepaws and eating it.

Customisation:

This avatar is copyable and modifable, so people should not have any issues modifying it to their heart’s content. Accessories for quads are difficult because each one is different, depending on the creator. As such, Tokushi offers their own accessories. Below are some of the pictures and options that users can buy for more money if they want fun conversation pieces.

Items Sold Separately:

TKFeralQwhillaSatchel

Feral Qwhilla Satchel

  • Users wear Satchels on both sides of the body for fashion
TKFeralQwhillaCart

Feral Qwhilla Cart

  • Users wear a halter and ‘pull’ a car that can carry up to two people
TKFeralQwhillaBalloon

Feral Qwhilla Balloon

  • Users sit on a balloon poseball that floats aimlessly and can be nudged with the WASD keys

Conclusion:

Even though the Feral Qwhilla is not particularly something new in terms of style or even some body parts, Tokushi has given an extension to the Qwhilla. They have successfully shrunken a token creation to an appropriate size and have made it prance around on four feet. The nimble creature comes with a wide range of animations that bring it to life, and the separately sold items offer some extra fun to an already solid avatar. For Tokushi’s first foray into the quadruped niche of avatars, the Feral Qwhilla is a well-constructed bundle of fictional fuzziness.
