Build and Skin:

Kinzart has chosen to release this avatar with generally basic body patterns. As such, there are no splotchy varieties of Lapine available. But while the avatars are textured in two-tone, users are given a plentiful choice of natural and unnatural colours. As for the textures themselves, there is plentiful, extensive shading over the body, particularly in areas like the pecs, breasts, abs, rumpcheeks etc. The brushstroke effects employed by the creator ensure the fur is not flat, but instead soft-looking.

The avatar comes with a mature female skin; which includes females genitals and nipples. Click Here for the picture of the female skin. Be warned that this link is rated Mature.

Starting with the feet, Kinzart has made them long and thin, very much like the design of a real rabbit’s feet. As rabbits do not have digitigrade legs, the creator has thankfully opted out of including this with their avatar. In general, the shape of the legs is sleek and well contoured, but there is also a plentiful amount of fluff-prims on and around the toes. This has very much enhanced the overall look of the feet. The feet have their 4 toes tipped with yellow-ish claws, but true to lapine fashion, the avatar does not come with paw-pads as we see on many other mammals. Instead, the undersides of the feet are textured to be outright fur-covered all over.

The avatar also comes with plantigrade leg attachments to smooth the attachment between the foot and the body shape. While they are not absolutely necessary, they add a little bit to the avatar in terms of style and fluffiness.

The tail itself is what you’d expect for one on a rabbit. It’s by no means a tiny rabbit’s tail, instead being very ruffled and noticeable. Users have the choice of being able to turn on/off the twitchiness of the tail.  The textures for the tail meld very well with the rest of the body, which in turn ensures that the tail stands out as a lapine trait.

The hands are very much what we have come to see from Kinzart. Each of the hand attachment’s four fingers are poseable, each has three poses. Users modify the finger positions from the HUD directly. Because the hands are slightly large, (they have to cover the shape hands underneath), there are some sculpted prims (with a little bit of fluff) attached to the prims to smoothen the visual transition. Users can easily do without these prims, however. Like the feet, there are no pawpads on the hands; just undisturbed fur like you would expect to see on a normal cartoon rabbit.

At last, we discuss the head. At a first glance, the face is very much lapine, with a broad muzzle and very organic looking ears. We’ll start with the muzzle. Some peers have mentioned that there is some similarity between the Kinzart Lapine and the Kinzart Squirrel muzzle. There is some amount of visual similarity, but I find it difficult to decide whether the muzzle is a tweaked version of the Squirrell’s or not. In the long run, this does not matter, as the muzzle with this avatar does a very good job of showing that the creature it is attached to is indeed a rabbit. The bridge of the nose is wide, and users are able to toggle a setting which causes the nose to wiggle and twitch idly. The animation for this is smooth and subtle. Surprisingly, this avatar’s head does not come with whiskers. Fortunately, this doesn’t actually affect the personality or look of the avatar. In a way, it may have given the head a little bit more definition by keeping the face clear of the thick whiskers.

The interior of the mouth is fully decked out with buckteeth on the top and bottom jaws alike. There are no other teeth close by except for the rows of slightly sharp looking molars at the back of the mouth. The interior of the mouth itself has been well constructed and textured; the tongue of particular note, here. Inside the mouth, everything appears three-dimensional. Additionally, users can choose whether they wish the avatar to smile or to frown. On earlier Kinzart avatars with this option, it was a little difficult to see the difference between smiles and frowns, but it would seem that this has improved.

Now to the rest of the head. The eyes are interesting, very much imitating the structure of a rabbit when you look at it from both the front and the sides. Some users may think that the head looks slightly angry from the front, however. In general, the eyes are almond shaped, pointed more towards the sides of the head than the front, which makes sense for a normally skittish animal that is often prey. There has been considerable enough anthropormophicisation to be a good mix between rabbit and human. Alongside the brightly textured eyeballs, users can choose from multiple different eyelid and eyebrow expression states. That is, you can make the avatar appear more angry, neutral, or sad. At the back of the cheeks, the head has some fluff prims to round out and fluff up the face for more lapine-like effect.

At this point, we’ll have a few words on the ears. Regardless of whether users choose the ears that flop down behind the head or the ones that stand up, (or a combination of either), the ears look soft, believable and organic. The shape is well contoured and the textures help to add an emphasis; whether it’s fur on the back or the pink skin on the insides. The ears that stand up have a little prim fluff in them as well for effect. The avatar comes with the option to twitch the ears; but this is only applicable to those ears which perk atop the head. To have floppy ears twitch would look a little odd. Additionally, only the perked ears can have their positions modified through the HUD (e.g. back, down, up).

Users are granted two different versions of hair; male and female, as you can see in the included pictures. All included hairs are easily tintable. We’ll again give Kinzart some notice for well-made hair attachments (especially for the females). The avatar looks aesthetic with the included hairs, and carries itself well without any hair attachments at all.

Features and Heads-Up Display (HUD):

All of the options that come with this avatar are easily controlled by the included HUD. There are some text commands available so users can take advantage of those.  The options are are as follows:

  • Page 1: Ears Back/Up/Side/Down toggle, Type-turning On/Off, Ear Twitching On/Off, Eyes Open/Calm/Tired/Squint/Closed, Eyebrow Neutral/Sad/Angry, Mouth Smile/Frown, Tail Twitching On/Off, Nose Twitching On/Off
  • Page 2: Individual Finger State, Jaw Rotation Slider, Preset Hand Options
  • Page 3: Eye Colour, Eye Contrast, Eye Glow for one or both eyes

Customisation:

The avatar comes modifiable and copiable, so users can modify their avatar as much as they want. Additionally, because the head is well sized; most third party hairs and hats can fit without the user needing to use much modification.

Conclusion:

This avatar is a well constructed lapine. Some could easily argue that the avatar seems to be more of a ‘hare’ as opposed to a ‘rabbit’ due to the way the body and the head are constructed. This raises the point that the avatar seems to be a mix of hare and rabbit. The end-result has been an avatar that could easily be used as pretty much any kind of lapine; whether it’s a hare, domestic rabbit or even a jackrabbit. Given responses to the avatar from yet other peers, it seems this avatar only encourages the furry appreciation for all things rabbity.

One More Thing…

For the 2010 Easter Season, Kinzart released a limited edition version of this avatar. While the functionality is exactly the same, the appearance is quite a bit different. That is; they feature (at the time of writing), a milk chocolate version of the avatar. In a few areas like the top of the chest and the bridge of the muzzle however, you do see a tiny bit of the original fur texture. Otherwise, the skin appears completely smooth, solid and chocolatey. As well, the tail and other parts have a little bit of detail taken away so as to make the bunny look like it’s actually made of sculpted chocolate rather than a simple recolour.

The female mature skin even includes unmistakably chocolate nipples for those who would have interest in that. (This Link is Rated Mature) Other additions include a light blue ribbon tied around the neck of the chocolate rabbit, which users can easily re-tint without a problem. Additionally, the avatar comes with a fun copy of the Left ear with a substantial bitemark which has taken a chunk of off.

Also included is a clothing layer that places bitemarks on the right rumpcheek (Ouch!), and a second version of the eyes without pupils, only irises. The result is that the eyes look like they are made out of candy. Users can easily re-colour these through the HUD. Altogether, this modification of the avatar offers a fun diversion which would tickle the fancy of those who love chocolate, double as vorephiles, or associate chocolate with sex.

The Milk Chocolate modification of the Kinzart Lapine is available only until April 11th, 2010. They are sold for a reduced price at 800L.

Happy Easter!

Thank god, a lapine av to combat the kani craze. And a good looking, sexy, and ‘adult’ style lapine it is

Awaiting a mod to allow for egg-pooping… :)

  • Science

I agree with Benson, thank goodness for a new bunny avatar that’s actually good looking! I’m really thinking about picking up a chocolate one.

  • Blau

Agreed somewhat with Benson as well, though I think the Kani’s versatility and cuteness has given it it’s current ‘hype’.

I like this av overall. There were a few first-glance irritations I had against it, as I generally do before I purchase and actually see an av in action, but those have cleared up rather quickly.
At first glance it appeared that the ears were oddly positioned, but now that I’ve had a good look, they look fairly normal aside from being small, in my opinion.
The HUD is a bit… well, let’s just say that I’d rather have specific buttons rather than the cycling buttons. I’m happy that text versions of the commands are available.
As has happened with the Fox, the Lapine’s mesh hands show through the prim hands sometimes, a bit more noticable on the fact that the fingers are a lighter color than the parts they stick out of.

Rabbits are my favorite anthros, and I’m glad that KZK did such a good job on making a realistic one. :]

I’ve been waiting for a nice, realistic looking lapine avatar since I started playing SL.

I’m glad someone finally pulled it off!

maybe for next easter 2011 could do a white chocolate one

  • Erin

I don’t like the way there are no whiskers. Its like chopping off a dogs tail to me. it just doesn’t look as nice after that.

  • Moonjava

Erin – This can be easily remedied if you just link some whiskers from another avatar.

  • Rale

    awesome!
i dont really like the curious rabbit, but i wanted to be a bunny evar! now the time is right, cuz this is the rabbit what i lookin for! maybe the ears are a little bit short to me, but they are so much better then curious’s ears.
i love the legs! and the skin is beutyful as always. :P

@moonjava I know it just.. seems kind of cheap I guess to leave such an important aspect of an animal off its face.
