Hot off the heels of the Husky release, Kinzart Kreetures has released a Leopard avatar fairly recently. This avatar doubles as a regular leopard/jaguar, as well as a snow leopard, with tail choices of various thickness. Let’s discuss this new interpretation of the iconic spotted feline.

Build and Skin:

As leopards of any type are generally very spotty creatures, it is important that the design and appearance of the fur coat remains true to the original species. This avatar does that; with clean patterning and rosettes in the fur which stand out while avoiding causing any kind of eye confusion.  The body has ample shading and highlighting, so the areas of the areas of the body that do not have the spots end up detailing musculature, highlight areas of the body, and provide some depth for the fur textures. As it comes in both male and female shapes, one hair for each sex is provided. Additionally, users are granted a female mature skin; with nipples and female genitals included.

The avatar comes with 4-toed-feet with a dew-claw at the rear of the foot towards the digitigrade leg. The structure of the feet themselves is well proportioned and features iconic, pink feline paw-pads on the underide of each foot. When the user opts to; the claws extend on each of the toes (including the dew-claw) . The textures are relatively simple on the feet, but where the digitigrade legs meet the back of the feet is where the spots begin. These digitigrade legs intersect with the back of the foot well, and are organically as opposed to mathematically-perfectly shaped.  Both of the leg attachments have highlights, shading, and striations of fur to add more dimension to the legs.

The tail comes as both a fully sculpted tail and as a flexible tail. For these two different versions, users can then choose between a ‘thick’ and a ‘thin’ variety. The sculpted tails are, as to be expected, a great deal more detailed than the flexible ones, curving organically with sculpted fluff. Users can have it curled behind them ‘up’ or have it unfurl ‘down’ close to the ground. The flexible tails are as neatly textured and designed as the sculpted tails; a rosette-heavy top with a base colour (usually white) underside and tip. The difference between the thick and ‘thin’ varieties is that users can choose an exuberantly tail or a slimmer version of the tail if it suits their fancy. One tail may suit a specific variety of leopard (jaguar vs. snow leopard) than the other.

The hand-paw attachments for this avatar were the first avatar of Kinzart’s to include independent finger poses as an option. In addition to choosing from # of pre-defined hand-poses (flipping the bird, peace sign), users can choose one of three states for each finger. The hands themselves feature fingers that are a fair bit longer and more human-like than paw-like. On the underside of the fingers, as well as the palm, there are spherical pawpads that don’t stick out too much, but manage to add to the sculpted structure of the hands. Discussing this with peers, some have remarked on the slightly spindly nature of the fingers which makes the paws less attractive to them. Others don’t have any issue at all.

The head as a whole is well shaped; the head-size is appropriate, and the proportions of the muzzle, forehead, and eyes provide a distinctly feline appearance. The eyes themselves are oval shaped and stand out in the way that the Kinzart husky avatar (released just prior) did. Although users unfortunately do not get to choose whether they wanted slitted pupils or round ones, people can decide what two colours to make up the irises. It is above the brows where the spots and rosettes of fur patterning begin to show up; complexifying over the forehead before lining the upper cheekbones. The patterning continues down the back of the head, so users who wish to go without wearing hair can do so very nicely.

The muzzle itself is of a boxy shape; complete with whiskers and a wide pink nose. Kinzart would seem to have a habit of detailing the textures on the muzzle as much as possible. The nose is neatly sculpted and textured; a dark pink feline nose that covers most of the muzzle’s width and tapers just above the upper lip. The streaks and application of gentle brush-strokes give the muzzle extra dimension and presence; but not so much that the muzzle looks overbearing on the face. A touch of blurry pink at the end of the muzzle implies a bit of thinning of the muzzle fur fairly nicely. The corners of the mouth have a bit of a trademark dark splotch on them for all of the available colour varieties. To complete the face, there is a completely array of whiskers, but not elsewhere on the muzzle

The interior of the mouth itself is very well complete with uvula and tongue; and all of the included teeth are not too sharp and imposing as much as accenting the other features of the face.

At last, the ears. On the back of the ears is mostly a black patch, but on the top, there is a circular white patch. The inside of the ears is a light pink with fluff prims near the front. These prims echo the prim-fluff-lined sides of the cheeks. Two hairs are also included; one for males and one for females. Both are well done.

Features and Heads-Up Display (HUD):

All of the options that are available for the avatar are acessible through the included HUD as well as through included text commands. Different functions like the custom jaw rotation and the pose-able fingers are not manipulable by way of the commands, only the HUD. The HUD options are as follows:

Page One:

  • Eyes (Open, Closed, Squint, etc.)
  • Ears (Up, Down, etc.), Ear-twitching On/Off
  • Eyebrow Expression (Angry, Sad, Neutral)
  • Ear Turn when Typing Toggle
  • Mouth Expression (Smile/Frown)
  • Tongue In/Out Toggle
  • Tail Up/Down Toggle, Tail-Wag Toggle

    • 3 Slots per hand for Saving of Custom Finger-Poses

Page Two:

Customisation:

This avatar comes as both copiable and modifiable. users should have no great issue in taking the avatar and modifying it for their purposes. The head-shape is in line with Kinzart’s usual standard; allowing third-party hairs to be applied without much difficulty.

Conclusion:

The Kinzart Kreetures Leopard is a successful addition to the list of re-renderings of big cats in second Life. With a regal attitude and seemingly hundreds of spots, the leopard doubles as a good black panther, snow leopard, or jaguar for whomsoever wished. As a whole, the avatar reflects well on the leopard species with, adding a few new features to Kinzart’s repertoire while honing in on their skills.

We should go shopping. Finally, something to replace my crowbar av.

Seriously considering buying one of these. They have fantastic tails.

If you don’t like a shortened muzzle on your felines there are THE best avatars out there. The tails are great too, very big and poofy.

I LOVE this avatar. I personally think it’s one of the best she’s done and I really want to work at getting more colours eventually. The only problem that I have with it is that, despite what the review has stated, it is kind of difficult to size certain third-party hairstyles to fit this head. I think what it is is that the cheeks poof out a bit more than usual heads and it makes it look strange without a bit of work. Overall, though, it IS beautiful, but requires skill to adjust the third-party hair piece by piece to get it to look perfect.

    :o
where can i get this blond hair at the last picture? *.*
nice av, i really like the tails. :3

I purchased this AV on a whim and after reading the review here. I have to say, that it’s nearly succeeding in switching my permanent AV from Cougar to Snow leopard… Which to me is something I previously would never have dreamed of. It may be just a phase, but it speaks to the skill with which this was made.

Nothing is perfect and there are some stylistic additions, as some have pointed out. But the texture work is excellent, the shape and form of the head a perfect blend between sexy and cute, and the eyes very inquisitive. With a few buttons I’m also able to go from cute to rawr quite dynamically, as well, quite expressive. I would highly recommend this one to anybody looking for a unique feline. :)

Cats do not have round eyes unless the pupil is fully dilated. I like its skin and stuff but i hate the way theres a non flex prim and then a flex prim on the flexi tail. as well as the huge bear like face it resembles the tiger that kinzart made except its spotted.

I’m not sure where “SAd” is getting their information, but unlike small cats, big cats do indeed have round pupils, meaning the avatar is correct

Beautiful avatar, but what’s with those über-poofy tails? The larger one is more squirrelly than feline, and even the smaller doesn’t really look like a leopard tail… I’d have loved a more naturalistic version, but I guess that’s only me… ^^

  • Ashy

I like this av alot I’m a snow Leopard and everybody seems to compliment me on it….the only thing is wrong with it is the hair that it comes with so i bought spiked hair for mine… best looking feline i seen so far

The reason it comes with a poofy tail variation is because snow leopards have long poofy tails. There’s a thin tail variation for non-snow leopards. And sorry SAd but snow leopards do actually have round pupils.
